Pony is a handsome fella who has a personality plus. He has been ridden in english and western tack, with a bosal and with a snaffle. He loads easily, can be washed easily, good for farrier and vet, stands tied quietly for hours, learning to ground tie. He has been ridden on trails, behind cattle, and used to start young horses off of. Pony requires a special buyer When we got Pony 3 years ago, he had been foundered. He was brought back through careful balanced trimming and now can get around anywhere with front shoes. He must be shod regularly to be trail ridden, as rocks bother his feet. Otherwise he is fine barefoot at home in the pasture. But he is so stout and so willing and so good, he is worth the trouble. Because he is such an easy keeper, he must be kept at a good weight to keep his feet well. We graze him 8-12 hours per day and then keep him in a small paddock with no feed the rest of the day. That's basically all he needs during the grazing months. Winter, good hay and perhaps a handful of feed once per day.
